Consumer investors evaluate: retention curves (D1, D7, D30), viral coefficient (K-factor), engagement depth (DAU/MAU ratio), organic vs. paid growth split, and a clear monetization path. They want to see habit-forming behavior, not just downloads.
Benchmark consumer app retention: D1 >40%, D7 >20%, D30 >10% is considered good. Social apps need higher (D30 >25%). If your D30 retention is below 10%, investors will pass regardless of your download numbers. Fix retention before raising.
Quantify your K-factor (invites per user x conversion rate). Show the specific viral loops: user-generated content that attracts new users, social sharing mechanics, invite incentives, and network effects where the product gets better with more users.
Most consumer investors prefer you focus on engagement and retention first, monetize second. But you should have a clear monetization strategy in your deck: ads, subscriptions, transactions, or a combination. Show comparable companies and their monetization timelines.
Consumer apps typically need $500K-2M at pre-seed/seed to get to meaningful scale (100K+ users). Budget for user acquisition testing, engineering, and 12-18 months of runway. Consumer is capital-intensive because you need scale to prove the model works.
