Seed investors want to see: evidence of product-market fit (retention, engagement, NPS), early revenue or strong growth metrics (10-20% MoM), unit economics that can work at scale, a clear go-to-market motion, and a team that can execute on the vision.
Seed rounds typically range from $1-4M, raising enough for 18-24 months of runway. The goal is reaching clear Series A milestones: $1M+ ARR for SaaS, strong retention metrics, repeatable customer acquisition, and a team ready to scale.
The killer seed metrics: MRR/ARR and growth rate, net revenue retention (>100%), LTV:CAC ratio (>3x), monthly burn and runway, and cohort-based retention curves. Present metrics honestly with clear definitions — investors will diligence everything.
Seed valuations typically range $5-15M depending on traction, sector, and team. SaaS with $10-50K MRR might see $8-12M. Hot sectors (AI, climate) can command premiums. Use comps from recent rounds in your sector — investors know market rates.
Plan for 3-6 months from first pitch to close. Build your pipeline 2-3 months before you start — investor relationships take time. Many founders underestimate the process: 100+ investor conversations often yield 10-15 meetings and 2-3 term sheets.
