Climate seed investors evaluate: quantified impact (tons CO2e avoided, cost per ton), technology validation (lab → pilot evidence), first customer or LOI traction, regulatory tailwinds you're leveraging (IRA, carbon markets), and team with climate/energy domain expertise.
Climate seed rounds range $2-5M for software-based solutions, $3-8M for hardware/deep tech. Budget for: technology development, pilot deployments, regulatory compliance, and 18-24 months of runway. Climate hardware needs more capital — be transparent about the development timeline.
Prove willingness to pay: signed LOIs, pilot contracts, carbon credit pre-purchases, or enterprise sustainability commitments. Show the total cost of ownership is competitive with incumbent solutions (even before carbon pricing). Sustainability mandates create real budget line items.
